The National Board of Trial Advocacy is pleased to announce that George Sistevaris, of the Fort Wayne law firm Law Office of George Sistevaris, has successfully achieved Board Certification as a civil trial advocate through NBTA. Mr. Sistevaris joins a growing number of trial attorneys that have illustrated their commitment to bettering the legal profession by successfully completing a challenging application process and providing the consumer of legal services with an objective measure by which to choose qualified and experienced legal counsel.

Founded in 1977, the National Board of Trial Advocacy filled a substantial void in the legal profession by creating the first attorney certification program. Most consumers are familiar with certification through the medical profession, which has easily accepted that no doctor can be knowledgeable in all fields of practice and therefore requires that doctors maintain certification in a particular specialty. Although the legal profession faces similar obstacles with a body of knowledge that is large in both size and complexity, many within the legal profession have discouraged the institution of mandatory specialization. No one attorney can possibly be knowledgeable in all aspects of legal practice but the consumer of legal services is continually expected to weed through a saturated market of advertisements and unsubstantiated claims with the hope of finding quality representation.

Founder Theodore I. Koskoff and a distinguished panel of renowned lawyers forged new ground when they set forth to create an alternative to the proliferation of frivolous claims of specialization. NBTA was formed out of a strong conviction that both the law profession and its clients would benefit from an organization designed specifically to create an objective set of standards illustrating an attorney’s experience and expertise in the practice of trial law.  George Sistevaris has successfully demonstrated a shared conviction through the completion of NBTA’s rigorous application process.

The elaborate screening of credentials that all NBTA board certified attorneys must successfully complete includes; documentation of trial experience, judicial and peer references, documentation of participation in continuing legal education, evaluation of legal writing skills, report of all disciplinary matters brought before any official body, either public or confidential, for scrutiny by the NBTA Standards Committee, and the completion of a day long examination. NBTA members maintain active trial practices and are required to report their disciplinary status annually. Every five years members are required to apply for recertification to insure their continued commitment to their designated specialty.

Achieving NBTA certification confirms that George Sistevaris, along with all NBTA certified attorneys, has exhibited a higher standard of professional conduct. NBTA is dedicated to the identification of attorneys with a history of enhanced skill in trial practice and insures that each NBTA board certified attorney can substantiate their specialty designation with true quality.
